Did you know that visits to the vet can double as spa days for your pet? The Animal Clinic is home to two talented highly-experienced groomers – Erin, our dog groomer, and Eric, who takes care of the cats! Whether your pet is a senior in need of a comfort groom or a puppy visiting us for their first trim, Erin and Eric will work hard to ensure that they leave the clinic looking and feeling fantastic.
Both dogs and cats require frequent brushing to keep their coats clean and mat-free. Matting, or clumps of tangled fur, can be painful as they pull at pets’ skin since the fur can no longer move freely. A dirty coat also traps dirt and loose fur, and can hide skin conditions, fleas, ticks, and other issues! While cats typically clean themselves, dogs don’t, meaning they also need to be bathed often to remove dirt and buildup from their fur. This is why we recommend frequent professional grooming for dogs, and professional grooming as needed for cats.
Throughout their lives, dogs require frequent grooming. Ideally, puppies will be sensitized to the grooming process early on to reduce stress during future visits. A full groom – which includes bathing, blow drying, brushing, and trimming – comes with plenty of new smells, sounds, and sensations, so the earlier a dog gets used to grooming the better! Grooming a calm dog makes the process easier, faster, and safer for both your pup and its groomer.
Since cats groom themselves, most cats will never need a bath in their lives! However, sometimes cats need a helping hand in keeping clean – that’s where we come in. Overweight cats may have a difficult time reaching parts of their body to groom, while seniors may no longer be up to the challenge. Similarly, some cats’ fur mats are easier than others, so it may be easiest to manage when it’s shaved short. Whatever the situation, we’re happy to discuss what kind of grooming your cat would benefit from!
We’re happy to offer special baths to target specific needs. Out oatmeal baths are a great way of soothing irritated skin, and various medicated shampoos can help to reduce the severity of a number of skin conditions.
